The vision requirements a future cabin crew must meet

Because we’ve received so many emails regarding the vision requirements a future cabin crew must meet, I’ve decided to write this article with the information you need to know.

Diopters

According to the requirements imposed by most airlines, as long as your diopters are between +/- 4 and in some cases +/- 5 (depending on the airline company) you have every chance of becoming a cabin crew. However, if your diopters are higher that specified, you won’t be able to pass the eye test and work within the field.

The ISHIHARA Eye Test

Many companies test their future cabin crew to make sure they meet the vision requirements. The most common eye test is the Ishihara, which is a test of color and visual acuity. Dr. Shinobu designed the test in 1917, and it’s the easier way to detect color blindness.
*** important: if you’re planning a corrective eye surgery, be sure you do it at least six months before the interview.

Glasses vs. Contact Lenses

Both forms of vision correction are accepted by most airlines, but you must remember to always have an extra pair of glasses/ set of contact lenses with you. You might need them in case of emergency.
