How A Flight Attendant Broke The Rules For A Grieving Man

Amid all the viral videos of incidences on airplanes, it seems that flying has lost its humanity. However, not all are flights from hell. There are thousands of flights where passengers and flight attendants aren’t at war with each other.
Below is a story that will restore your hope in the human race. This story will make you cry so please keep a box of tissue ready.

Flight Attendant Broke The Rules For The Sake Of Humanity

An old man was traveling to his hometown in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu in Japan to bring his late wife’s ashes to her final resting place. The couple had been living in Yokohama and they were together for more than 50 years.
The container for his wife’s ashes was being kept in a large bag, and upon baggage check-in, he asked if it was okay to take it aboard. The check-in staff approved his request.

The old man eventually boarded the plane, went to his seat and tucked away the large bag in the overhead compartment.
As he was settling in, a flight attendant came over and said,
“The seat next to you is empty. Would your traveling companion like to sit down?”

She then took down the bag, placed it beside the man and secured it with the seatbelt. Later on, refreshments for two were also brought over.
The elder passenger later said,
“We were able to have a final trip together, just the two of us.”

The gesture by the flight attendants was a simple one. Maybe it just so happened that there was extra space in the plane. Maybe the flight attendants even broke a few rules. Nevertheless, the courtesy shown to this grieving man goes beyond the call of duty.

As flight attendants, we not only need to be vigilant to scan passengers for any potential threats, but also for people who may be at a very low point in their lives. Not all passengers are on holidays or business/work trips.
Kudos to this flight attendant who had the initiative to choose between enforcing a law of aviation or showing a simple act of kindness in the most subtle and human way.
