How using an airline’s identity can help you land a Cabin Crew job

Who are you?!

Ask any of your friends to describe your identity and although they might struggle at first, they’ll probably be able to define you pretty accurately after giving it some thought. Think about your friends- how would you describe them? Funny, loyal, sassy, quirky, arty, studious, ambitious, smart, free-spirited, clumsy, caring, intuitive….the list goes on and on! They’ll all have something a little bit different, after all, they are all unique. And you will have a list of words which describe you which no one else you know will have in quite the same combination.

Buying from who you ‘like’

When you think of the different airlines, they all have their own identity too. Companies spend a lot of money on advertising campaigns to make it clear how they are different and what makes them stand out. It makes it easier for customers to choose to book flights with an airline if they ‘like’ their concept and what they stand for. We make buying choices like this all the time. Have you ever walked round the supermarket and reached for a brand of food or beauty product because the adverts have shown you that you ‘like’ them? Even if it means choosing a slightly more expensive product than one which has branding you don’t recognise or feel you relate to?

Crew reflect the company brand

So understanding about identity and brands is one thing, but how can you make this useful to you as a cabin crew applicant? Airlines don’t see media or advertising campaigns as their only chance to promote who they are and what they do. They recruit staff to deliver that message day in day out through the service and care they provide to their customers. So when it comes to making selection decisions, they will chose candidates they feel will do a good job of delivering that message effortlessly.

Showing you care

You can’t change who you are, but you can be mindful of what is important to your potential employer when you submit your application or prepare for your assessment day. By showing that you care about these things too, it might make it that little bit easier for your airline to choose you to join their team.
