The Cabin Crew Assessment Day- Fact and Fiction

Having an Assessment Day with an airline in a BIG thing. As exciting as it is, it’s also very nerve-wracking. You’ve got this far, you don’t want to be put off by uncertainty or rumours.
We have worked on Assessment Days for years so we know what they are like, how they feel, and what simply isn’t true! Here we dispel some of the myths, and hopefully make you feel more prepared for this exciting, and hopefully life-changing opportunity.

The assessors will put you off
There will be assessors observing you during different tasks, and this can be a daunting prospect. However, once you get started you will pretty much forget that they are there. You have too much else to be thinking about to have time!

The assessment day is long and will drag
The days are often quite long but there is so much for you to get absorbed with that the time will go by very quickly. The worst time is when you are waiting to start an activity. Once you are doing it the time will fly.

You only do well if you have done an assessment day before
It does seem to help with nerves if you know what to expect but people can do just as well their first time round. The key is in making sure you are properly prepared. Airlines don’t want to see you again if you fail an assessment day
Many airlines ask you not to apply again for a year after having an application rejected but this gives you time to up your game. You are welcome to apply again after that, just make sure there is something different in what you can offer this time!

There’s no point attending unless you are confident you will succeed
Even if you suspect you aren’t ready, it’s worth giving it a go for the experience and to find out what to expect. You may surprise yourself and do better than you think, so don’t miss an opportunity just because you have anxieties about it. Everyone does, you just have to battle through them.

It’s a mystery what is expected of you
If you feel like this then perhaps there is more preparation you can do. There will be info on websites and in recruitment documents which will help you understand what the airline is hoping to see from you. Assessment day activities don’t seem relevant
It will become clear why you are asked to do roe-plays and group exercises once you have had a go. It’s all about trying to see how you would behave if you were actually cabin crew. These types of exercises put you in situations to give the recruiters their best idea of how they can expect you to act if they gave you the job.

You can’t prepare, you just have to see how you do on the day
You are likely to put effort into preparing for any big event, a driving test, exam etc. and an assessment day is no different. The more work you put in beforehand, the more equipped you will feel to do your best. Brushing up your assessment and interview techniques is the most effective approach to succeeding.
Just remember, an invite to an assessment day is already a fantastic first step closer to your dream career. The assessment day is your opportunity to shine.
